To evaluate the efficacy of combined oral contraceptives (COCs) containing drospirenone (ethinyl estradiol 30 mg and drospirenone 3 mg) in combination with post-abortion rehabilitation therapy, 108 patients (87 women with spontaneous abortion and 21 with non-developing pregnancy) were examined, treated, and underwent rehabilitation measures after pregnancy termination at 5 to 12 weeks' gestation. The patients were divided into 2 groups: 1) 62 women who had undergone a package of rehabilitation measures, including drospirenone-containing COCs; 2) 46 patients who had taken no COCs after abortion. Six months following COC use, there was a reduction in the incidence of inflammatory diseases of the uterus and its appendages, dysmenorrhea, as well as the absence of functional ovarian cysts, impaired menstrual cycles, and endometrial hyperplasia. Conception occurred in 53.2 and 41.1% of the patients in Groups 1 and 2, respectively. Miscarriage cases amounted to 3.2 and 15.1% in Groups 1 and 2, respectively. A good COC tolerability and a good cosmetic effect were observed. The high efficacy of a low-dose COC containing drospirenone allows it to be recommended for use in a post-abortion rehabilitation program.
