Abstract:

Diagnostic methods are of primary importance in orthodontics because the definitive diagnosis is as a rule a combination of several abnormalities. One of the most essential diagnostic criteria is Element III of the Andrews philosophy. Will Andrews and Larry Andrews (WALA) ridge Element III is based on the fact that the mandibular width is frequently determined from the marginal crest. At present, cone-beam CT is a most extensively developing tool for instrumental three-dimensional diagnostics in orthopedics. It makes this technique a most promising approach for the measurement of the mandibular skeletal structures in the transverse direction.
