The present longitudinal study included 45 students of the Department of Clinical Psychology, Moscow State Medical Stomatological University. They were followed up during 3 years with the use of the following tools: the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, the Startegic Approach to Coping Scale, and the Level of a parity of "value" and "availability" in various vital spheres. The study has demonstrated that the degree of alexithymia significantly increased in the course of training during the first three years; at the same time, the use of adaptive coping strategies decreased while intrapersonal conflicts related to material security issues, family life, and other social events became more frequent. These tendencies were enhanced by the interplay between these factors.
