
TECAR therapy for complications after brachioplasty

Abstract
OBJECTIVE
To analyze the effectiveness of TECAR therapy for early postoperative complications after brachioplasty.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
We analyzed rehabilitation of patients after brachioplasty following massive weight loss due to previous bariatric surgery. Tissue perfusion parameters were also assessed using the LAZMA PF analyzer.
RESULTS
No seroma was observed in the TECAR-therapy group, while it was observed in 22.2% of patients in the control group (p<0.05). In addition, the main group had less severe pain and faster recovery. In one patient, pain and swelling disappeared after 3 TECAR procedures. Sensitivity became normal and normotrophic scar formed after 10 procedures. Symptoms persisted for up to 5 weeks without TECAR. According to Doppler ultrasound, TECAR therapy was followed by significantly faster recovery of microcirculation (6.7 vs. 4.1 units, p=0.001), i.e. better tissue perfusion.
CONCLUSION
TECAR therapy has a complex pathogenetic effect on essential mechanisms of postoperative complications: microcirculation disorders, lymphostasis, delayed regeneration, and fibrogenesis. Despite the need for further randomized studies to validate standardized protocols, we can conclude that this method appears promising for integration into modern rehabilitation programs, including patients after brachioplasty.
