Abstract:

Thymoma is the most common tumor of the anterior mediastinum. However, the frequency of ectopic thymomas is no more than 2—4%, and among them, those localized in the middle mediastinum are extremely rare. The article summarizes data concerning registered cases of ectopic thymoma of the middle mediastinum and describes our own clinical observation. In the presented case, it was possible to morphologically verify the ectopic type B2 thymoma in the right peritracheal space before the operation using endoscopic ultrasonography with transbronchial fine-needle aspiration biopsy, followed by confirmation of the diagnosis after thoracoscopic removal.
