Abstract:

The paper describes a clinical case of the first successful use of intraoperative hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy by Russian surgeons in treating an 11-year-old female patient with colon adenocarcinoma. The patient underwent midline laparotomy, right hemicolectomy with intraoperative hyperthermic cytostatic perfusion. The postoperative period was uncomplicated. Adjuvant polychemotherapy was performed within the framework of the FOLFOX (fluorouracil, oxaliplatin, leucovorin) protocol. Comprehensive examination of the patient at 6 months after termination of special treatment revealed no disease progression. After 12 months, local recurrence was absent; carcinomatosis was not detected. There were no local recurrence signs or metastatic cells within 1.5 years. The specific treatment has been completed; the girl leads a full life. The given case highlights the successful application of current high technologies in pediatric cancer practice. Peritoneal carcinomatosis in children with locally advanced malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract can be prevented with combined treatment involving intraoperative hyperthermic cytostatic perfusion.
