Abstract:

Malignant neoplasms (MNs) of the trachea, bronchus, and lung occupy a leading position in the structure of morbidity and mortality due to MNs in the Russian Federation. The South Ural Region is no exception. The incidence and mortality rates of malignant lung tumors were investigated using the data of the Chelyabinsk population-based cancer registry over 2006—2015. The incidence and mortality rates of lung cancer in the Russian Federation and the Chelyabinsk Region were comparatively characterized; the time course of changes in the rates was determined. There is an obvious need for an effective package of measures for the primary and secondary prevention of malignant lung tumors because of ongoing unfavorable environmental conditions in view of the fact that the Chelyabinsk Region is the country’s leading producers of ferrous metals.
