The risk factors of melanoma and the role of dysplastic nevi and their malignization are identified. There is evidence that there is a need for enhancing the physicians’ responsibility to detect early forms of melanoma in accordance with the known clinical and differential diagnostic signs and regulations. The major clinical signs of melanoma and the basic methods of prevention are described.
