The paper considers the issues of applying a current approach to the therapy of disseminated pancreatic cancer. The role of mono- and combination chemotherapies and the place of targeted drugs in the treatment of this disease are assessed. The efficacy of a combination of gemcitabine and erlotinib is evaluated in terms of a response to therapy, disease control and survival, as well as the safety profile of this treatment is analyzed in a large sample of patients (n=1308). The combination of gemcitabine and erlotinib versus gemcitabine monotherapy is shown to be significantly effective in improving overall survival rates. This combination may be the first-line treatment of choice for disseminated pancreatic cancer.
