Abstract:

The efficiency of computed tomography (CT) in the identification of regional lymph node metastases was studied in 63 patients with colon cancer. All the patients were radically operated on. The number and size of the metastases were not found to be a determining diagnostic criterion, but the presence of 10-mm or more multiple lymph node metastases in the lymphogenic outflow areas substantially increased the probability of their metastatic involvement. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of CT were 85, 88.4, and 87.3%, respectively; its predictive value of a positive result was 77.3% and that of a negative result was 92.7%.
