Improvement of medical care quality involving professional organizations plays specific role in today’s healthcare. Microbiological diagnosis quality has specific significance in connection with the emergence of new infectious threats and the increasing spread of highly resistant strains of microorganisms. A survey of microbiologists was conducted to identify development trends, microbiology area issues, and the maximum number of factors affecting microbiological service development in the Russian Federation. In addition the survey also aimed to create a program of forthcoming laboratory medicine congresses and to determine priorities for «Federation of Laboratory Medicine». The study revealed a few the most relevant aspects: the problem of fragmented, extensive and, at the same time, insufficient current regulatory framework with many outdated documents; significant differences in the laboratory equipment, functioning, needs between Moscow and regional microbiological services; demand for the common information space for experience sharing and cooperation of microbiologists; the relevance of interdisciplinary interactions, etc. The present article provides an overview of the most revealing data to define the priorities of professional organization for microbiological service development. The authors plan to perform more detailed survey data analysis with engagement of experts in prospect.
