Abstract:

The annual increase in incidence of cancer with the localization of cancerogenic process on the skin ranges from 3 to 10%. In the structure of oncological morbidity in Russia, malignant skin tumors occupy the second place in terms of incidence (11—12%). Basal cell carcinoma (BSC) accounts for up to 80% of all malignant epithelial skin tumors. The article presents a review of the literature on non-surgical methods of treating BSC, including the most important out of numerous conservative treatment strategies and effective methods of treatment. The outcomes of treatment of BSC using photodynamic (PDT), radiation, local drug therapy, systemic chemotherapy and immunotherapy are presented. Statistical data on the recurrence of BSC after various methods of conservative treatment are described and compared with the frequency of recurrence after surgical treatment. The treatment options for inoperable patients with systemic chemotherapy with Vismodegib and Sondegib, immunotherapy with recombinant interferons alpha-2b, reaferon, viferon (Russia) and intron A (USA) are reviewed. Statistically reliable data on the treatment of BSC using various non-surgical methods are given. The conclusions about the feasibility of using conservative methods of treating BSC in clinical practice are presented.
