Abstract:

This review is based on the analysis of clinically significant aspects of etiology and pathology of rosacea. The causes of the disease are discussed with special reference to the inflammatory processes, vascular disorders, disturbances in the innervation of blood vessels feeding the facial skin, the influence of the immune system, and the role of microorganisms. The prevalence of rosacea at different locations and its dependence on the patients' age and sex as well as the level of development of different countries are considered. The currently accepted classifications of the disease are characterized. The triggering factors responsible for the development of rosacea are described.
