Over the past decade, mortality in cardiogenic shock following acute infarction is 40—50%. Mortality rates are declining with development of percutaneous coronary interventions, but still remain extremely high. Coronary artery disease (CAD) accompanied by chronic coronary artery occlusion is the main predictor of acute coronary syndrome complicated by cardiogenic shock. One of the reasons complicating management of patients with coronary artery occlusion is no precise indications for myocardial revascularization and unclear data regarding benefits of invasive techniques. The interest of medical community in percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) for coronary artery occlusion has increased dramatically in recent years. This review contains current data characterizing validity and possibility of PCI for chronic coronary artery occlusion regarding lower risk of cardiogenic shock. Searching for articles was carried out in the Medline (PubMed), RSCI (eLIBRARY) and Google Scholar databases.
