OBJECTIVE

To evaluate clinical and hemodynamic outcomes in patients with true bicuspid aortic valve who underwent Ozaki procedure with double-leaflet replacement.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Our sample included 12 patients (7 men and 5 women) with true bicuspid aortic valve who underwent repair of two leaflets with autologous pericardium (Ozaki procedure). Seven patients had aortic stenosis, 4 patients — stenosis and regurgitation, 1 patient — regurgitation due to infective endocarditis. Mean age of patients was 56 years (range 14—73). The minimum and maximum EuroSCORE II values were 0.6% and 14.4%, respectively (mean 1.6%).

RESULTS

Mean aortic cross-clamping time was 107 min, cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) time — 133 min. There were no in-hospital mortality, myocardial infarctions, strokes and resternotomy for bleeding. According to transthoracic echocardiography upon discharge, four patients had mild aortic insufficiency. Other ones had no aortic regurgitation. Mean aortic valve area was 3.3 cm², transvalvular pressure gradient — 6.2 mm Hg.

CONCLUSION

We observed favorable clinical and hemodynamic results in 12 patients with bicuspid aortic valve after Ozaki procedure. This technique is technically simpler, does not require a new commissure and allows you to restore natural morphology and physiology of the aortic root.
