Aim. To identify risk factors of cardiovascular complications in elective abdominal surgery using comprehensive cardiac examination. Material and methods. The study consecutively included 179 patients undergoing elective abdominal surgery of middle and high risk. Following tests were performed before surgery: cardiologist’s consultation; ECG in 12 standard leads; transthoracic echocardiography according to standard protocol, tissue Doppler imaging and LV speckle tracking with longitudinal strain evaluation. Cardiopulmonary exercise test was conducted in 145 patients (35 patients had contraindications for study). Results. There were 38 perioperative cardiac complications among 179 patients included into study. 12 (6.7%) patients died due to cardiovascular event. Various cardiovascular complications occurred more frequently in case of gastrectomy (23%), colon resection (31%) and pancreatectomy (20%). Major cardiac events were observed more frequently after pancreatectomy (20%) and colon resection (16.7%). Our data highlight the main indicators of functional survey that are typical for patients with cardiac perioperative complications.
