It is presented an overview of prevalence of chronic heart failure (CHF) and its diagnosis. The modern recommendations for diagnosis of CHF including algorithms for diagnosis of heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction are given. It is presented data about prevalence of non-cardiac causes for dyspnea, fatigue and other symptoms typical for heart failure in patients with cardiovascular diseases history. The results of their own research are also presented. The study included 409 outpatients with suspected heart failure on the basis of "cardiovascular" history and presence of dyspnea and other symptoms typical for CHF. Heart failure has not been confirmed in 50% of cases (33% of men and 59% of women), but non-cardiac causes of symptoms were identified. Most often it was lungs dsease (11%), obesity (10%), myocardial ischemia (9%) and hypothyroidism (9%).
