The importance of thorough preparation of the paper and compliance with the rules of its writing is emphasized. The optimal universal structure of the original article is presented. It meets the requirements of the vast majority of medical journals. The general rules for writing of each section are discussed, including an introduction, presentation of the methods used, results, discussion, conclusions and list of references. Some important details are discussed that often attract both negative or positive attention of reviewers and the editor. It is proposed to strictly adhere to a certain order of data presentation in Materials and methods and Results sections. Special attention is paid to the writing the discussion section. The importance of this particular part of the paper is emphasized. How to write conclusions is also discussed. Some useful tips are given regarding which expressions and terms have to be avoided.
