Abstract:

The present study included 532 patients with acute thrombosis in the basin of inferior vena cava examined and treated between 2000 and 2004. Instrumental diagnostics of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) was performed using ultrasound duplex scanning and retrograde iliocavography. Patients with suspected thromboembolism of the pulmonary artery (TEPA) were examined by lung scintiography and angiopulmonography. All patients were allocated to two groups. Patients of group 1 (n=154) were managed by open surgery, those of group 2 (n=378) by implantation of the cava-filter. Comparative analysis of delayed results of the surgical treatment in groups 1 and 2 was focused on the severity of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). It was shown that open surgery in patients with floating thrombosis of the iliofemoral segment gave better results in the late postoperative period than implantation of the cava-filter.
