The review presents literature data on modern possibilities of diagnosis and treatment of acute biliary pancreatitis (ABP). Information on the possibilities of using radiation imaging methods in the diagnosis of ABP is presented and indications for urgent, early and elective endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography are determined. The results of studies on the comparative evaluation of the clinical effectiveness of endoscopic treatment are presented and recommendations are given on the optimal timing of cholecystectomy in different forms of ABP. These materials indicate that endoscopic sphincterotomy in combination with cholecystectomy is the most effective option for preventing recurrence of ABP and complications from the biliary tract.
