The currently available data on the peculiarities of the morphological structure of the mucous membrane in the middle ear cavities are presented in conjunction with information on the functional features of the upper respiratory tract and the middle ear. A comprehensive review of the modern methods for the study of the mucociliary activity of the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract is provided.
