PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

To reveal the peculiarities of the immune microenvironment in the cellular structures of the cervix associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions of high oncogenic risk degree.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A survey of 40 patients with cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions of high oncogenic risk degree at the age from 18 to 45 years was carried out. The comparison group consisted of 30 patients operated for gynecological diseases not associated with abnormalities of the cervix and oncological diseases of the reproductive system. All patients underwent histological examination of cervix biopsy material with an immuno-histochemical reaction, including an assessment of the cells’ proportion expressing lymphocyte receptors CD56, CD3, CD20, CD138 and macrophage colony stimulating factor (M-CSF) in the cervical epithelium. Evaluation of the results obtained was carried out according to the degree of fluorescence and the number of formed antigen-antibody complexes in percentage terms.

RESULTS

It was found that in women with HPV-associated cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions of high oncogenic risk degree, an increase in the expression of B-lymphocyte and T-lymphocyte receptors is observed. At the same time, there is a statistically significant increase in the number of plasma cells (CD138) in the stroma and a decrease in the infiltration of cervical epithelium M-CSF cells.

CONCLUSION

The obtained data demonstrate changes in the local immune microenvironment in cervical biopsies in HPV-associated cervical intraepithelial neoplasia of high oncogenic risk degree and can serve as prognostic markers for the disease development.
