Abstract:

Objective: to improve therapy and prevention of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the uterus and appendages in women after curettage for spontaneous abortion or non-developing pregnancy. Subjects and methods. Fifty-three patients, including 49% of them were hospitalized with a diagnosis of spontaneous abortion and 51% diagnosed with non-developing pregnancy, were examined. A study group consisted of 28 patients receiving wiferon (interferon-α2b) suppositories 500,000 IU during standard therapy after curettage. A control group included 25 women who had standard therapy only. Clinical, laboratory, microbiological, and instrumental (ultrasonography and Doppler) studies were used. Results. Incorporation of wiferon (human recombinant interferon-α2b) suppositories 500,000 IU used twice daily for 10 days into a standard therapy and prevention regimen for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the uterus and appendages in women after curettage for spontaneous abortion or non-developing pregnancy was found to reduce the intensity of bloody discharge and the duration of pain syndrome, to normalize uterine sizes, to improve uterine vascular blood flow, and to affect a decrease in erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Conclusion. There is evidence for the safety and good tolerability of wiferon as an antiviral and immunomodifying drug used in patients after curettage for spontaneous abortion or non-developing pregnancy.
