Abstract:

Forty-three patients with simple endometrial hyperplasia (EH) (Group 1) and complex EH without atypia (Group 2) were examined to improve management tactics for this condition in reproductive-aged and premenopausal women. Along with traditional studies, the authors performed an immunohistochemical study of the expression of α-estrogen and progesterone receptors (ER and PR) and the proliferation marker Ki-67 in the epithelium of endometrial glands and stromal cells. There was a decrease in ER levels (p < 0.05) with moderate endometrial proliferation in Groups 1 and 2 and a maximal reduction in the immunohistochemical index for PR in complex EH as compared with those in the control group (p < 0.05). Receptor expression was characterized by a predominance of PR over ER in Groups 1 and 2 (p < 0.05). The specific features of therapeutic approaches for EH have been warranted.
