Fractures of the bones of the facial skeleton occupy one of the leading places among hospitalized patients in the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery. At the same time, there is a tendency to an increase in the number of patients, aggravation of the nature of the injury and, often, to an increase in the number of complications in the form of the development of post-traumatic osteomyelitis. Analysis of the medical and statistical characteristics of patients with injuries to the bones of the facial skeleton is relevant and important for the organization and planning of therapeutic and preventive measures.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A retrospective analysis was carried out of 1196 case histories of patients with traumatic injuries of the maxillofacial localization, hospitalized in the department of maxillofacial surgery of the City Clinical Hospital No. 7 in Kazan for the period 2015—2019.

RESULTS

The material we have collected indicates that over the years of research, the number of fractures of the facial skeleton began to be recorded more often. The increase in the number of cases at the end of 2019 compared to 2015 was 37.8%. The absolute number of cases (93.6%) of fractures of the facial skeleton in men and this trend is typical for many countries. The differences in the proportions for men and women with injuries of the mandible are statistically significant.
