The paper describes a clinical case in which right-sided chronic sphenoiditis was diagnosed according to medical history data and paranasal sinus computed tomographic findings; in this connection surgical treatment was proposed, which was refused by the patient. Hypertrophic rhinitis was diagnosed on the basis of examination data after admission to the purulent ENT unit of City Clinical Hospital Four. The posterior portions of the lower inferior nasal conchae were resected. After surgery, nasal breathing was restored, pathologic nasal discharge and headache disappeared, and blood pressure was normalized. Thus, a correct diagnosis was established and a clear causal relationship was traced between nasal cavity disease (hypertrophic rhinitis) and clinical symptoms.
