Abdominal obesity is a risk factor for chronic kidney disease development. Adipose tissue produces a number of vasoactive adipocytokines, such that the development of renal fibrosis is accelerated.

OBJECTIVE

To assess the associations of certain adipocytokines and early renal dysfunction in residents of Novosibirsk aged 25—44 years.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study included 1033 people aged 25—44 years. Examined subjects with glomerular filtration rate less than 90 ml/min/1.73 cm² were divided into subgroups with abdominal obesity and without it. The control group included those examined with normal kidney function, which were also divided into subgroups. Statistical processing was carried out using the SPSS software package (version 13.0), non-parametric tests were used for analysis.

RESULTS

Individuals with renal dysfunction and abdominal obesity had higher levels of GLP1, C-peptide, IL-6, PAI-1 and leptin than those without abdominal obesity. The chance of kidney dysfunction occurrence increased at higher levels of lipocalin-2, GLP-1, resistin, GIP, PP and TNF-α. When all adipokines were included in the multivariate model, only increased resistin level was associated with increased chance of kidney dysfunction.

CONCLUSION

Associations with renal dysfunction have been obtained for lipocalin-2, GLP-1, resistin, GIP, PP and TNF-α in abdominal obesity. Independent associations of renal dysfunction in young people with abdominal obesity have been obtained only for resistin.
