Abstract:

The profession of a doctor belongs to the “person-person” type since it is inextricably linked with communication and interaction with people. Modern realities exacerbate the need for training in the principles of professional communication with patients and their families, compliance with ethical standards, and the development of empathy among students of higher medical schools and young doctors of all specialties. The article provides an overview of the results of international studies that confirm the need for high-quality communication between a doctor and a patient regardless of the mentality, geographical location and economic structure of society, examples of the organization of the educational process for the development of communication skills in a number of medical universities are given. The authors of the article express practical suggestions for teaching and improving communication skills among students of the pediatric faculty which will improve the efficiency and quality of pediatric care, and also share their experience in organizing electives on communication in pediatrics.
