Tobacco smoking is a leading risk factor for noncommunicable diseases and related death. Smoking cessation support is one of the effective measures for tobacco prevention and cessation, which is currently regulated under the tobacco control law in Russia. However, smoking cessation support is not being implemented sufficiently. Objective — to elaborate an algorithm for smoking cessation support and tobacco dependence treatment and recommendations for is implementation. The paper analyzes the legal acts and documents, which regulate the medical support for smoking prevention and control over the consequences of tobacco consumption, as well as the results of modern investigations, which have been used to create an algorithm for smoking cessation support. Based on this analysis, algorithms for smoking cessation support and tobacco dependency treatment are developed, which will be able to simplify this process at most, to integrate the counselling of a smoking patient in the routine doctor examination, to reduce the time and labour expenditures, and to enhance the efficiency of consultations. The presented algorithm will be recommended for use as the basis of clinical guidelines for the treatment of tobacco consumption (ICD-10 F17.1), tobacco dependence syndrome and tobacco withdrawal syndrome (ICD-10 F17.2 and F17.3).
