Abstract:

Objective — to assess the impact of supervised exercise training conducted in the outpatient setting within a three-stage rehabilitation program on working ability and disability in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Material and methods. A total of 125 able-bodied patients (mean age 56.8±5.6 years) with CAD who had undergone CABG were examined. Indicators were assessed before and 6 months after CABG. Results. In the first 6 months after CABG, in the supervised exercise training group there were significantly fewer 11 (15.7%) patients, first referred for sociomedical examination to determine a disability group than in the non-exercise training group 19 (34.5%) (p=0.0144). Moreover, among the patients who had undergone a cycle of supervised exercise training, there were more 33 (47/1%) patients who returned to their work, whereas in the non-exercise training group there were only 17 (30.9%) patients (p=0.066). Conclusion. Supervised exercise training during outpatient cardiac rehabilitation has proven to have a beneficial effect on the indicators of working ability.
