Abstract:

Objective. To identify the differences in the expression of Fas and FasL apoptosis markers in the sperm of fertile and subfertile men and discover the relationship between the expression of these proteins and conventional semen parameters. Marial and methods. Samples from 46 fertile and 78 subfertile men (an average age is 33.5±0.7 years old) were examined. The study of Fas and FasL expression was performed with the use of monoclonal antibodies followed by fluorescence microscopy. Results. The expression of Fas-antigen on the sperm of fertile men was observed more frequently than in subfertile men. Fas-positive cells rate was less than 10% in fertile donors and more than 10% in subfertile group. In the subfertile men Fas-positive number of spermatozoa correlated with concentration, motility and morphology of sperm. FasL is found only on the sperm of fertile men. Conclusion. A significant correlation between Fas-receptor expression and semen quality was demonstrated. Fas factor expression is considered to be a factor that can reduce the sperm fertility.
