Objective. To experimentally substantiate the method developed to simulate pyogenic liver abscess. Material and methods. Liver abscess was simulated with laser support in an experiment on 45 laboratory rabbits. A double-channel Fogarty catheter, the balloon of which was inflated to a volume of 1.8 cm3, was inserted into the set liver lobe using ultrasound. The clinical Staphylococcus aureus strain cultured over 24 hours was used to contaminate the formed fibrous cavity of the liver. The used clinical, planimetric, microbiological, morphological, and instrumental studies are the basis for an experimental model for classical liver abscess. Results and discussion. Transcutaneous laser-supported liver puncture provides reliable cholestasis and hemostasis. A double-channel balloon catheter ensures the development of a formed pyogenic liver abscess with degenerative changes in hepatocytes, necrotic foci surrounded by loose connective tissue. Conclusion. The puncture technique for simulation of a liver abscess using a double-channel balloon catheter is low-traumatic; it ensures the formation of pyogenic liver abscess cavity with specified characteristics over a short period of time. The used clinical, instrumental, microbiological, and morphological data experimentally substantiate the development of classic liver abscess.
