Abstract:

Hereditary neoplasm-predisposing people are one of the high cancer risk groups. The aim of their active detection was to create the country’s first cancer registry in 1990, which has been functioning in two Moscow districts with a population of more than one million. Principles in creating the register, procedures for information collection, processing, and storage, results of work, and difficulties associated with the changes that have occurred in the country in the past years are outlined in this article. The registry contains information about 6932 families (48 207 persons). The collected data were helpful to conduct a number of researches and to develop and evaluate a new grading system for family cancers. This grading system may be used to assess the risk of new malignant tumors in probands and relatives. The results of the regional cancer registry are of interest from both scientific and practical standpoints.
