Lichenoid dermatoses of the anogenital area are an urgent and complicated problem of modern medicine due to differential diagnostics and treatment challenges. Most lichenoid dermatoses are associated with itching, which impairs patients' quality of life due to considerable discomfort. Features of the course of squamous lichen planus, lichen sclerosus, and lichen simplex chronicus localized on the skin and mucous membranes of the external genitalia are described. The epidemiology of lichenoid diseases is addressed; the current views and results of recent studies concerning the etiopathogenesis of these diseases are presented. The main clinical manifestations of different forms of squamous lichen planus, lichen sclerosus, and lichen simplex chronicus anogenital area in females and males are discussed in detail. Particular attention is paid to current treatment approaches for lichenoid dermatoses based on recent literature data. This aspect is extremely important since there are controversial opinions regarding the therapy of these dermatoses, and many medications are used off-label. In addition, the paper highlights the prognosis of all the considered dermatoses and the risk of malignant transformation, particularly into squamous cell carcinoma.
