Abstract:

Pruritus is one of the most common complaints among patients of dermatovenerologists. Pruritus can occur with or without concomitant, visible skin lesions. The prevalence of pruritus in general population is 17—23% and up to 10% of cases are female patients complaining of localized itching of the vulva, which can be a symptom of various diseases. Among them, lichen simplex chronicus is distinguished by the most intense, painful itching, which in this case is not only a symptom, but also the cause of the disease. The pathogenesis is based on the vicious circle of «itching — scratching — inflammation — itching», and the triggers of the onset of the disease can be different. Intense itching significantly reduces the quality of life of the patients. Lichen simplex chronicus of the vulva can be difficult to diagnose due to the various dermatoses affecting this anatomical area. A detailed case history and clinical and laboratory examination allows to diagnose the disease in a timely manner and choose the appropriate tactics. Taking into account the localization, patients can visit doctors of various specialties (including obstetricians-gynecologists, dermatovenerologists, urologists), which makes it interdisciplinary problem.
