Abstract:

Bacterial vaginosis is a general infectious non-inflammatory syndrome associated with quantitative and qualitative changes in the structure of the vaginal biocenosis. Bacterial vaginosis is characterized by decreased level or absence of lactoflora and its replacement with polymicrobial associations of anaerobes. Our study was aimed at investigating the status of local non-specific protection in patients with recurrent bacterial vaginosis and its correction with tilorone, an endogenous interferon-gamma inducer. The study revealed pronounced leukocyte reaction and increased level of IFN-γ in the vaginal fluid of patients with recurrent bacterial vaginosis. The results of the study demonstrated that combination of basic treatment with administration of tilorone is accompanied by reduced leukocyte reaction, significant normalization of IFN-γ level, as well as improvement according to Amsel criteria compared to the control group. Thus, the laboratory and clinical results suggest that tilorone can be recommended as a component of therapy of relapsing forms of bacterial vaginosis.
