There is increased number of sexually active males with chronic pelvic inflammatory diseases (PIDs), who have cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA detected in their urethral swab specimens during examination. Objective. This study is aimed at improving the approaches to diagnosis and treatment of cytomegalovirus infection of the urogenital tract. Material and methods. The study involved 56 patients with PIDs caused by pathogenic and opportunistic microflora and CMV. The patients were administered with intravenous 0.004% Panavir solution at a dose of 5 ml and antibiotics. Results. Combination therapy using antibacterial agents and intravenous 0.004% Panavir solution at a dose of 5 ml in patients with CMV infection in the urogenital tract was effective in 84.61% of cases.
