Dirofilaria belong to Filariidae family and includes several species, Dirofilaria immitis, Dirofilaria repens, Dirofilaria tenuis, Dirofilaria ursi. This infection is widespread in dogs. In human, it was considered to be a rare helminthiasis characteristic of regions with hot climate. In recent years, the disease has spread throughout the Russian Federation. It is vectored by mosquito populations. In humans, it results in injury to the skin and possibly internal organs. The clinical presentation is variable, so patients seek advice of various medical specialists, while dirofilariasis is not even suspected. The paper presents two clinical cases of dirofilariasis registered in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. We provide a brief literature review of the etiology, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment of dirofilariasis.
