Structural abnormality of the epidermal barrier is one of nosotropic factors in the development of atopic dermatitis (AtD). Basic external therapy involves administration of emollients/moisturizers, including bath preparations. Bathing is an important aspect of care and psychophysical development of a child during the first years of life. Material and methods. The efficacy of hydrotherapy in the complex treatment of 120 children with AD aged 1 to 7 years was studied during a stationary stage of dermatovenerologic care. Results. The adsorption properties of basic topical medications used for hydrotherapeutic procedures were analyzed. It was found that pH of water from different sources is alkaline (pH values 7.6 to 8.6), which leads to increased xerosis. Citrate buffer system was designed to correct pH of water, thus improving the adsorption properties of emollients. Conclusion. A course of modified hydrotherapy enhances the efficacy of therapy when used in complex treatment of AD in children. It can be recommended to outpatients, inpatients and patients during recovery phases of specialized care.
