Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the incidence of combination of celiac axis compression syndrome with other diseases; to develop an algorithm for diagnosis and treatment of these children.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Postoperative outcomes were analyzed in 148 children with celiac axis compression syndrome in 2015—2024. Simultaneous (N=43) or staged (N=19) surgeries were performed taking into account comorbidities.

RESULTS

The main concomitant diseases in celiac axis compression syndrome are diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract and funnel chest. Nausea, heartburn, belching and pain after physical exertion are more common in concomitant diseases. Surgery time in isolated celiac axis compression syndrome was 45 (40; 50) min, in concomitant diseases — 75 (55; 90) min (p<0.001). Concomitant diseases did not increase the number of intraoperative complications and did not reduce long-term effectiveness of interventions.

CONCLUSION

Simultaneous surgery is indicated for celiac axis compression syndrome and comorbidities requiring surgical treatment. Our experience shows successful simultaneous surgeries in children.
