Abstract:

Acute appendicitis is a common pathology with an incidence rate of almost 230 cases per 100.000 population per year. The clinical presentation of acute appendicitis is quite varied and can mimic a variety of abdominal diseases. However, cases of acute appendicitis following colonoscopy are extremely rare. Only a few similar examples have been reported in the scientific literature. This article describes a clinical case of phlegmonous retrocecal appendicitis in a patient following endoscopic removal of a colon tumor. Possible pathogenesis, differential diagnosis, and management and treatment strategies for this condition are discussed.
