OBJECTIVE

The aim of this study was to report the experience of performing thoracoscopy in an infant with a complete vascular ring formed by the right aortic arch, aberrant left subclavian artery, and ligamentum arteriosus.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The scientific work performed a retrospective study of the medical history of a patient who underwent thoracoscopic division of the vascular ring. The demographic parameters of the patient, preoperative clinical symptoms, data from ultrasound examination of the heart and contrast computed tomography of the chest organs, surgical technique, data on the course of the postoperative period and information about complications were studied.

RESULTS

The duration of the operation was 90 minutes. The drainage tube was removed after a control ultrasound examination the day after surgery. The patient was in the hospital for 5 days. The follow-up period was 9 months. The patient was asymptomatic throughout the control period.

CONCLUSION

Thoracoscopic division of the vascular ring formed by the right aortic arch in combination with the aberrant left subclavian artery and ligamentum arteriosus is a safe and effective method that minimizes the physiological and cosmetic side effects of surgery.
