Considered in this paper are the commonest disturbances of innate (congenital) and adaptive immunity in the patients with chronic persistence of hepatitis viruses or alcoholic intoxication suffering infectious complications of liver cirrhosis. It is concluded that the development of sepsis as the most serious complication in such patients should be regarded as the final stage of the infectious process starting from bacterial and endotoxin translocation, proceeding through the systemic inflammatory reaction to decompensation of cirrhosis, and ending in the development of polyorgan insufficiency (POI), not infrequently with the fatal outcome.
