The authors present methodological approaches to analysis of neurological symptoms and dysregulation of various functions in patients with chronic disorders of consciousness based on comprehensive assessment with allocation of symptoms of dissociation and disconnection. This can improve accuracy of prognosis and outcomes. Importantly, the concept of allostasis is applicable to these patients. Clinical manifestations of allostasis are paroxysmal sympathetic hyperactivity and systemic inflammatory reaction.
