The article assesses the implementation of patient-centered principles in obstetric practice on the example of the Childbirth in Moscow project and provides recommendations for its improvement and introduction in other regions.

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the feasibility of implementing patient-centered principles of obstetric care at the regional level and provide recommendations to improve the accessibility and patient experience.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

This observational, non-comparative, prospective, long-term multicenter study evaluated the obstetric care accessibility and assessed the patient experience.

RESULTS

The model of obstetric and gynecological care in Moscow is based on obstetric care standards at the regional level, which include standardization and improvement of routing following the preferences of patients, an expanded range of obstetric services and care in the region’s maternity hospitals, as well as the formation of omnichannel communication at the patient level within the Childbirth in Moscow and at the clinician level (Unified Medical Information Analysis System).

CONCLUSION

The use of value-based approach tools in the provision of obstetric care in Moscow demonstrates the compliance of medical care with the key principles of a patient-centered approach. Scaling up patient-centered obstetric and gynecological care will improve fertility rates at the national level.
