Objective — to determine viral agents in the endometrium of patients with recurrent miscarriage and chronic endometritis and the possibility of improving the reproductive prognosis of these patients using antiviral and immunomodulatory therapy. Subject and methods. Fifty patients aged 21 to 39 years with recurrent miscarriage and chronic endometritis were followed up. All the patients underwent clinical and diagnostic examination, bacteriological study of the vaginal microflora, cervical canal, and uterine cavity, diagnosis of urogenital infections by polymerase chain reaction, as well as Doppler ultrasound mapping and histological examination of endometrial biopsy specimens. Results. There was a high frequency of sexually transmitted and viral (herpes, cytomegalovirus, and human papillomavirus) infections. Bacteriological control in the subgroup of patients who had received the immunomodulatory drug alloferon-alpha along with antibiotic therapy revealed a 100% eradication of the bacterial microflora and a reduction in the viral load to clinically insignificant levels. Conclusion. The use of the antiviral and immunomodulatory drug alloferon-alpha in conjunction with antibiotic therapy in patients with chronic endometritis and recurrent miscarriage leads to a favorable outcome of treatment in significantly more percentage of cases.
