The paper summarizes the data available in the literature on the role of isthmicocervical insufficiency in the genesis of recurrent miscarriage and the authors’ experience in studying this issue and discloses prospects for performing current treatment options in the prevention and therapy of this pathology. Dynamic ultrasonography is emphasized to be the leading diagnostic technique for isthmicocervical insufficiency. The paper describes a nonsurgical cerclage method using obstetric support pessaries. It also sets forth modifications of a surgical procedure to correct isthmicocervical insufficiency during pregnancy. It gives the experience of the Moscow Regional Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology with uterine cerclage used after prior radical abdominal trachelectomy for cancer of the cervix uteri. The authors declare no conflicts of interest.
