To study the possibilities of a complex ultrasound study to identify endometrial abnormalities, 107 patients with recurrent miscarriage and sexually transmitted infections mainly of viral etiology (a study group) were examined. A control group included 20 patients (Group 2). Examinations were performed in the first and second phases of the menstrual cycle. Morphological examination of endometrial biopsy specimens revealed chronic endometritis (CE) in Group 2. Two-dimensional echographic endometrial changes as foci of fibrosis of the basal layer, those of thinning and asymmetry of the anterior and posterior endometrial walls were ascertained to be indirect signs of CE. The application of current diagnostic techniques, such as three-dimensional echography and three-dimensional Doppler, makes it possible to estimate the volumes of the endometrium and corpus uteri, the uterine vasculature, to investigate the anatomic features of the vessels, and to concomitantly measure their blood flow, by determining the hypo- and hypervascularization areas or vascular portions indicating the presence of a pathological process, which facilitates the choice of further management tactics for such patients.
