The susceptibility of the bacterial flora in the cervical canal to macrolides, fluoroquinolones, amoxicillin, clavulanate, and cephalosporins was studied in 501 patients with chronic small pelvic inflammatory diseases. A control group consisted of 84 patients contacting a gynecologist for prophylactic examination and choice of a contraceptive method. Gram-negative bacteria, gram-positive cocci, representatives of the class Mollicutes, were found to be highly susceptive to azithromycin and josamycin versus other groups of antibacterial drugs. The findings should be kept in mind when the latter are empirically used, particularly in gynecological hospitals, in patients with acute or recurrent chronic small pelvic inflammatory diseases. In these clinical situations, the parenteral administration of azithromycin with subsequent correction and choice of individual antimicrobial therapy after obtaining the results determining the antibiotic susceptibility of the microbial flora is on the list of priority.
