Labor induction is currently a commonly accepted obstetric method used to reduce complications during labor and to improve perinatal outcomes. The timely and correct evaluation of the readiness (maturity) of the cervix uteri for labor is of great importance in predicting the course of the coming childbirth when the time and method of labor inductions are chosen. The study has indicated that the higher efficiency of labor induction is achieved by the individual choice of methods and their combination depending on the cervix uteri and gestation period. It has been ascertained that of fundamental importance for successful labor induction is the pre-induction maturation of the inner pharynx, the changes of which are most pronounced when applying a Foley catheter that the authors have been first to use in Russia. The use of the Foley catheter as a means for labor induction with the low baseline maturity of the cervix uteri has been shown to have some advantage over pharmacological (prostaglandin E2) and widely used mechanical (natural laminarias) methods.
